acontra+ is a Spanish streaming service that uniquely combines movie streaming with cinema tickets in a single subscription. Operated by the independent Spanish distributor A Contracorriente Films, this service offers a vast catalogue of national and international feature films spanning all genres, including both classics and contemporary releases. acontra+ is designed for audiences who appreciate the big screen experience as well as those who enjoy watching movies at home, providing the perfect blend for film enthusiasts.
Challenge
In 2020, A Contracorriente Films partnered with Magine Pro to host their earlier TVOD service, Sala Virtual de Cine, on the Magine Pro platform. Building on this collaboration, A Contracorriente Films launched the new acontra+ service in 2022, offering a premium subscription model alongside TVOD for exclusive content releases.
The new acontra+ service was required to be available to audiences in Spain with a hybrid monetisation model (SVOD & TVOD), as well as being multi-platform accessible, including web, iOS and Android apps for mobile devices and big screen viewing via Apple TV, Amazon Fire, LG and Samsung Smart TV, with content viewable offline and downloadable to devices.

Result
Magine Pro provided a full end-to-end streaming service, enabling acontra+ to launch successfully to audiences across Spain. The service supports subscription and transactional monetisation models with in-app purchases enhancing UX and accessibility for users. The new acontra+ service maintains the spirit of Sala Virtual de Cine by collaborating with Spanish theatres to offer audiences a premium subscription model that includes a monthly movie ticket for all registered subscribers.
acontra+ is now available to download in Spain on multiple devices, including web, mobile and big screen. The acontra+ service offers users access to new and exclusive European and international content every week with various genres and particular emphasis on feel-good cinema.
